What's Antonia Fraser going on about?
I started doing historical research at the British Library recently. I was anticipating endless queues and a major crush in the reading rooms, due to reading Antonia Fraser's complaints about the library opening its doors to 'texting' students, in a Times article. To date, I've managed to get the same desk (in the Humanities Room on the first floor) every time I've been there, and the only noise so far has been the sharpening of pencils in a bin located next to my desk. According to the British Library, its reading rooms are going to be exceptionally busy from mid July until the end of August, and they advise researchers to get there first thing in the morning or in the early evening. I knew I shouldn't have thrown my sleeping bag away.
